"Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love. They depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs your heart is very big." Erica Jong
Days were not so lonesome
When I had you to love and hold
My sweetest little angel
You kept me from the cold
You warmed my heart and gave me comfort
I found my strength in you
My days were not so solemn
My nights were not so blue
Each and every morning
together we’d rise with the sun
You brought me so much joy
You were the only one
As time went on we grew older
And then one day your time had come
For you to cross over to the other side
Far Beyond the flowers, the earth and the heavens,
Beyond the moonlit tide,
Your presence still lingers here
In my heart and in my mind
I can see you in the birds and in the squirrels passing by
I will always keep you close,
Memories of you can never fade
Nor the presence of your ghost
For I can always find you in my dreams
As I lay still asleep in the evening shade
Under magical trees in bloom, a place we use to share
Where the birds sang and the wind caressed my hair
I held you in my arms, with gentle loving care
Your eyes sparkled like stars in the nights sky
And your coat shined as bright as the full moon
You brought me happiness, you were my wish come true
But my heart was broken that day you left so soon
I watched the sun rise without you and imagined you were near
I felt the rain upon my face mingled with my tears
I caught a glimpse of lightning strike in the distant sky
I heard the sound of thunder as rain clouds passed me by
Each evening as the sun set low
I sat alone watching peacocks perch on tree branches above
I listened to crickets sing their songs of love
In all of natures wonder,
In everything glorious I know
No beauty on this earth compares to my love for you
The hardest thing I ever had to do, was let my best friend go.
